About

LINX was contracted to provide both cabling and technology management support for the new UCHealth Eastview facility, a three-story outpatient clinic in Colorado Springs. This project marked a significant milestone for LINX as it was the first time the company assumed the role of technology management, overseeing all subcontractors working with low-voltage systems. This innovative approach streamlined coordination, allowing UCHealth to interface directly with LINX instead of managing multiple contractors.

Project Description

The scope of work included structured cabling, audiovisual integration, security, and wireless systems, cellular DAS along with the installation of a Nurse Call System. LINX provided a complete low-voltage solution using CommScope and Avigilon products, ensuring seamless integration across voice, data, security, and multimedia applications. The comprehensive cabling infrastructure featured over 324,000 feet of SYSTIMAX Category 6A cabling and extensive fiber backbone installations. The AV scope included conference room technology, patient entertainment systems, paging solutions, and integrated digital displays across clinical and administrative areas.

Project Approach and Goals

LINX deployed a dedicated preconstruction team six months prior to the project start, proactively identifying design discrepancies and reducing potential conflicts before site mobilization. The team coordinated closely with Turner Construction (GC) and the electrical contractor (Sturgeon Electric) to mitigate trade stacking challenges and ensure pathway alignments met UCHealth standards.

A major innovation in this project was LINX’s role as the single point of contact for all low-voltage subcontractors. This allowed for:

  • Improved project efficiency by eliminating redundant communication channels.
  • Cost savings by reducing rework and scheduling inefficiencies.
  • Centralized project oversight through a Smartsheet schedule incorporating all low-voltage activities, including the Nurse Call System.
  • A streamlined closeout process, consolidating all documentation into a single package for UCHealth.

LINX leveraged Microsoft To Do for punch list management as well as Procore, ensuring issues were addressed promptly and tracked in real time. The team’s adaptability was crucial in resolving unforeseen design conflicts, such as mismatches between architectural plans and actual room layouts.

LINX’s Role in the Project

As the technology management lead, LINX provided:

  • Project Management & Coordination – LINX managed four to five project managers across various disciplines, ensuring synchronized execution.
  • Cabling Installation – Deployment of structured cabling for network, wireless, security, and audiovisual systems.
  • Audiovisual Integration – Installation of AV systems, including digital displays, conference room setups, and paging systems.
  • Nurse Call System Management – Oversaw subcontractors Hillrom (Baxter) and ICS in the deployment of the Voalte Nurse Call System across all three floors.
  • Security & Wireless Infrastructure – Integrated security communication backbone and access control cabling.
  • Cellular DAS – Installation of cellular DAS system throughout building
  • Closeout & Documentation – Compiled all final documentation into a single deliverable for the client.

Outcome and Impact

The success of the UCH Eastview project demonstrated LINX’s capability to manage complex low-voltage integrations at an enterprise level. The streamlined approach resulted in a highly efficient build process and a satisfied client, leading to future opportunities, including a project at the Broncos Training Facility. This project also served as a proof of concept for expanding LINX’s technology management services in future healthcare and enterprise deployments.
