About

The Montrose County School District located in Montrose County, Colorado desired to upgrade all electronic security systems across the entire District. The District includes fourteen (14) District facilities in Montrose County, CO spread out across 2,200+/- square miles with approximately 811,820 total building square footage.

The electronic security systems include access control, video surveillance, mass communication and intercom, and intrusion detection and alarm systems. In addition to upgrading and adding these electronic security systems, the project involved integration with other school district systems currently in use such as the District Public Address System, the VoIP Telephone Systems, the Human Resources Management System, the Student Management System and the District’s Raptor Visitor Management.

MCSD Project Approach

The District desired to have fully integrated electronic security systems across the District on a single unified platform.  The District chose Genetec Security Center as its platform.  Montrose County School District wanted to improve its Access Control, Video Surveillance, and security infrastructure with the primary goal of controlling entry into its facilities.

MCSD seeked to establish an inner perimeter for all facilities allowing for controlled entry points observed and managed by access control, video surveillance and intrusion detection systems on each campus.  MCSD now has real-time situational awareness in all facilities for the proper observations, response and dispatch should an incident occur.  Of importance to the District, was the ability to seamlessly integrate a lockdown feature whereas the access control system initiates automatic pre-recorded announcements over the Public Address systems.

Genetec Security Center allows the District to integrate the HR and Student Data Management Systems with the Access Control System in order to update access to the campuses. MCSD wanted to take a more active security role with these new systems once installed.

LINX went through a stringent qualification process with the Districts consultant, Sentinel Consulting and the District to be selected to compete for the multi-year, multi-phase project.  An RFP was then responded to in which LINX was selected based on our qualifications, our proposed implementation plan, and pricing.

LINX has completed installation of over 400 access points utilizing Sclage multi-technology readers with OSDP on Mercury control hardware, over 500 AXIS IP cameras recorded on Genetec Streamvault NVR’s, Zenitel entry intercoms, Halo Vape sensors, and many lockdown/duress devices.  Systems Integrations include the use of GIS location graphic mapping with active icons for alarm/video integration callup, Active Directory sync, intrusion, Event-to-Action, and radar-based PTZ tracking,
