Pay: Tech I: $20.00 – $23.00/hour | Tech II: $22.00 – $25.00/hour | Tech III: $25.00 – $29.00/hour
LINX is hiring Data Center Technicians to work inside live, operating hyperscale facilities, paying $20.00 to $29.00 an hour depending on level. This is Day 2 work: the data center is already up and running, and you’re installing, patching, and troubleshooting inside it, not building it from scratch.
You’ll install and connect devices in server racks using copper, power, and fiber, transport and position racks by procedure, and do the fiber/copper patching and Smart Hands troubleshooting that keeps an occupied, operating facility running.
Where This Role Fits at LINX
Technician I → Technician II → Technician III → Lead Technician → Foreman → Superintendent → Project Manager → Senior Project Manager → Program Manager → Operations Manager
What You’ll Be Doing
Live Rack & Cable Work
- Install and connect devices in server racks using copper, power, and fiber (LC-LC, AOC-MTP, AOC-AOC), following structured cabling best practices
- Transport, unload, and position server racks throughout the facility according to specific procedures
- Perform Smart Hands work — fiber and copper patching, troubleshooting, testing, and cable routing, including work on ladders
Cable Installation & Termination
- Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems for CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cable
- Pull, suspend, fireproof, terminate, and test cable runs to BICSI standards, NEC, and local code
Quality & Documentation
- Document every installation for compliance with industry standards and project specifications
- Deliver organized, professional workmanship that meets spec on every run
Customer & Site Professionalism
- Communicate clearly and professionally with site contacts to resolve technical issues in a live, occupied environment
- Travel to job sites in-state and, when needed, elsewhere in the U.S.
Minimum Requirements
Required — Technician I (applies to all levels):
- Able to work on ladders and use power tools; able to lift, carry, and set up a 50 pound box or ladder
- Must own a complete set of personal low voltage hand tools (snips, strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches)
- Able to follow directions on a repetitive task for a long duration in a live environment
- Available to work 2nd or 3rd shift, overtime, and under deadline pressure
- Must pass a 7 year criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and physical
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
- Professional working proficiency in English, written and verbal
Required — Technician II (all Technician I requirements, plus):
- 1+ year of hyperscale data center low voltage installation experience
- Installs devices and cabling into live server racks using copper, power, fiber, and other connection types with limited supervision
- Patches fiber and copper cables from network racks to servers with limited supervision
- Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and work a 90-degree bend proficiently with limited supervision
- Can install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling systems proficiently, including with Fluke DSX-600/8000 cable certifiers
Required — Technician III (all Technician II requirements, plus):
- 2+ years of hyperscale data center low voltage installation experience
- Installs devices and cabling into live server racks with no supervision
- Patches fiber and copper cables from network racks to servers with no supervision
- Able to terminate a jack, pull cable, and work a 90-degree bend proficiently with no supervision
- Can install, terminate, and test CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling systems with no supervision
This Role Is Probably Not Right For You If
- You don’t have experience with low voltage cabling, or you’ve never worked inside a live, occupied technical environment
- Your background is IT supervision or help desk without hands-on structured cabling installation experience
- You’re not comfortable following strict procedure around live, powered equipment — this isn’t a new-build site
- You’d rather work solo than as part of a crew — Team LINX means making each other better and winning together, not going it alone
Preferred
- Data center experience
- BICSI Technician or Installer certification, Copper or Optical Fiber
- Powder Actuated Tools Certification
- Confined Space Certification
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Manufacturer certifications for installation and maintenance (Fluke, Fujikura, Sumitomo, Corning, Hilti)
- High school diploma
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Rate:
